A Private Ranch Elopement Near Buena Vista, Colorado

When people think about a Colorado elopement, they often picture hiking deep into the mountains or traveling to one of the state’s famous overlooks.

Cristal and Ryan’s Colorado elopement was a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful location is one that already holds a special place in your story.

Set on a private family ranch outside of Buena Vista, Colorado, their wedding day combined beautiful mountain scenery, family history, and a few uniquely personal touches that made the entire experience feel completely their own.

Getting Ready on the Family Property

We started the day with some detail photos and a hot cup of coffee on the ranch. One of my favorite parts of photographing Colorado elopements is seeing the personal details couples choose to incorporate into their day, and Cristal and Ryan’s celebration was full of meaningful locations and memories.

Instead of rushing from one venue to another, they were able to spend the day surrounded by places that already meant something to them. Their Colorado ranch elopement allowed for the space to do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted! Including multiple outfit changes and coffee breaks.

Exploring the Private Buena Vista Ranch for Elopement Portraits

One of the biggest advantages of eloping on private property is having the freedom to explore.

We spent part of the morning driving around the ranch, stopping at different locations for portraits. Towering aspen trees created the perfect backdrop, while a nearby lake reflected the surrounding mountain scenery.

Every stop felt a little different, giving their gallery a variety of landscapes without ever needing to leave the property.

For couples considering a Colorado ranch elopement, this is one of the biggest benefits. Private property often provides flexibility, privacy, and meaningful locations that simply can’t be replicated elsewhere.

Unique Elopement Portrait Locations Near Buena Vista

After exploring the ranch, we headed to a few nearby locations to add even more variety to the day.

We stopped at a set of train tracks and explored unique rock formations that perfectly complemented the rugged beauty of the Arkansas Valley region. These locations added a touch of adventure while still keeping the day relaxed and easygoing.

One of the things I love most about Buena Vista elopements is the variety. Within a short drive, you can find mountain views, aspen groves, lakes, rock formations, and wide-open landscapes that all feel distinctly like the wild west of Colorado.

A Historic Hunting Lodge Celebration on Family Land

To end the day, we returned to the family’s historic hunting lodge.

Cristal and Ryan popped non-alcoholic champagne and spent time celebrating together before taking some of the most unique portraits of the day.

The lodge has been part of their family’s history for generations, making it the perfect place to finish their wedding day. One particularly memorable set of photos featured the couple with a 100-year-old hunting rifle while dressed in their wedding attire. The images felt timeless, personal, and deeply connected to the property’s history.

These weren’t just wedding photos; they were photographs tied to family traditions, memories, and a place that has been meaningful for decades.
